Dirk's favorite work in the picture inspired by Gaudí

Artist Dirk Denoyelle has a lifelong history with his work. Every artpiece has its own idea, process and finishing touches that create depth to the work. In case you are just as curious as us, Dirk explains the meaning behind his favorite work: an ode to Gaudí (architect of, among others, the Sagrada Familia).

Admiration

"On the one hand I have a great admiration for the Catalan artist and legend Antoni Gaudí", says Dirk. "At the museum in the Casa Pedrera it is nicely explained how he managed to succeed to dimension columns so elegantly. Knot strings together and then hang them from the ceiling. The shape that creates the piece is the optimal shape to overcome gravity. Simple, but genius."

Amazings Sculpture in the picture: Gaudi

"Since Gaudí didn't build anything straight, that is also relevant in my case, except for the LEGO® bricks themselves, of course"

"Therefore, I wanted to make a work that paid tribute to him. I was destined to put his portrait in it out of all things, but it had to be in a building that he could have made. And since Gaudí didn't build anything straight, that is also relevant in my case, except for the LEGO® bricks themselves, of course. Even the bottom plate in my work is in the shape of a water drop. Just like Gaudí, always inspired by nature."
